Treating anxiety in young people is not child's play, but your help can make it easier

helping kids keep their cool

Cool Kids at Macquarie University's Centre for Emotional Health is a unique program that teaches children and their parents how to better manage a child's anxiety.

The program teaches kids and parents practical skills that will help them understand their anxieties. It also provides strategies for how the affected families can understand and support each other.

For ten-year-old Mitch, anxiety was all consuming

He found social activities difficult. He would cry and panic during a simple visit to the park. At other times, his parents couldn't work out why he was feeling worried.

The Cool Kids program gave Mitch strategies to face his anxieties. They helped him verbalise why he was feeling anxious, which in turn reduced his parents' anxiety.

Mitch no longer dreads going out, and says that Cool Kids made him much braver.

If you'd like more information about the Centre for Emotional Health's Cool Kids program, please visit our website.

You can help kids like Mitch. Your donation will allow us to:

  • Offer scholarships for those who might be unable to afford treatment
  • Conduct research to further refine our programs
  • Improve the accessibility of the treatment by making it available online

Your generosity to the Centre for Emotional Health will help us achieve all this and more.
